We have lift off!!
Okay, well not exactly. But we do have our first litter! My special little girl, Nerf, graced me with 9 little beans early the morning of January 18th. Every single one was the picture of health with perfect little milk bands by the end of the first day. It is now day 2 and I'm starting to see a hint of some patterning and color. We have at least 2 that are hooded and the rest are kind of a grab bag at the moment. Over the next few days they will start to get more hair and I'll be able to see what exactly we've got going on. I've posted this info on the nursery page also but I'll be posting individual photos of the beans around the middle of February and reservations will open on Valentines Day. Pick ups will begin March 1st. If this litter isn't great timing for you, have no fear! There are at least two other litters planned this year and I'll definitely keep you all up to date on the happenings here at the rattery. I've already received some interest which is fantastic so I really appreciate the support I've received thus far. Feel free to comment on the blogs with any questions you may have. Next post will be an introduction to ratty genetics for those that may be curious.

It's 2018! Twelve Oaks is ringing in the New Year by welcoming our first litter in just 2 short weeks. As we are starting our lines from the beginning, we will be using the first few litters to determine what genes our breeders are carrying and "flush" them out to create pure, consistent lines. Basically, this first litter is going to be a grab bag.
For a mini genetic lesson, Cinder is black and Misha is Amber which is a diluted version of Agouti. Assuming the parents have no carriers, all babies will be agouti because ragout is dominant over black. There will be a few pet only babies available for adoption. After I determine which little critters I'll be holding back, the others will be ready for pickup around March 30th. If you're interested, like our facebook page so you can stay up to date on their progress. I'll be posting photos quite often during their first few weeks and will let everyone know which applications have opened up. That's it for this one folks, thanks for dropping by! |
